16. Scam Prevention
Built-in protections and tips to keep your deals safe.
What's this for? Sabong Market has multiple layers of protection built in. Understanding them โ and knowing the red flags โ is your best defense against scammers.
Built-In Protections
- Duplicate photo detection โ the app rejects photos already used by another seller. This prevents fake listings using stolen images
- Payment keyword detection โ if someone mentions GCash, bank transfer, or advance payment in chat, a warning appears automatically
- External app detection โ if someone tries to move the conversation to Viber, Telegram, Messenger, or shares a phone number, a warning appears. Scammers prefer to operate outside the app where there's no record
- Trust levels โ New, Bronze, Silver, Gold badges show how established a seller is. Be extra cautious with New accounts
- Seller verification โ verified sellers have submitted ID and farm photos reviewed by our team
- GPS location check-in โ both parties check in at the meetup location, creating a verifiable record
- Proof photo required โ buyers must upload a proof photo before confirming a transaction
- Safety reminder โ pinned at the top of every conversation as a constant reminder
- First-message safety prompt โ the first time you chat with a new seller, a one-time safety reminder appears with key tips before you start talking
- Pressure tactic detection โ if someone uses urgency phrases like "marami pang interesado" or "bilhin mo na" to rush you, a warning appears automatically in chat
- Account age gate โ new accounts have a posting limit during their first days to prevent bulk fake listings from fresh accounts
- Auto shadow-ban โ accounts that receive multiple reports in a short period are automatically restricted while under admin review
Red Flags to Watch For
- Seller asks for advance payment before meeting
- Seller wants to move the conversation to another app
- Price is suspiciously low for the bloodline or quality described
- Seller can't meet in person and offers to "ship" the bird
- New account with no reviews, no profile photo, and no farm info
- Photos look professional or stock-like โ possibly stolen from another source
- Seller is evasive about location or keeps changing the meetup plan
How to Stay Safe
- Always meet in a public place โ mall, police station, or busy market
- Bring a friend or family member to the meetup
- Inspect the bird thoroughly before paying
- Pay cash on meetup โ never send money in advance
- Keep all communication inside the app so there's a record
- Check the seller's trust level, reviews, and verification status before messaging
- Use the Recommended Meetup Locations feature โ the app has a list of verified safe spots in major cities (malls, police stations)
If you've been scammed: Report the user immediately using the Report button on their profile or listing. File a dispute on the transaction if one exists. You can also report to local authorities โ the in-app transaction record and chat logs can serve as evidence.
